Ivory Coast’s debt burden is expected to decline from 2027

The World Bank projects that Côte d’Ivoire’s public debt will fall from 57.7% of GDP in 2026 to 56.4% in 2027 and 54.7% in 2028. A lower debt-to-GDP ratio does not mean the amount owed will shrink: central government debt stood at 34,882.3 billion CFA francs at the end of March 2026, including 21,736.6 billion in external debt. The 2026 budget provides 4,916.2 billion CFA francs for principal repayments and 1,757.9 billion for interest and other financial charges, bringing the total to 6,674.1 billion.
