Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Costs N7.5 Billion per Kilometer, Umahi Says

Nigeria’s Works Minister, David Umahi, says a standard kilometer of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway costs N7.5 billion, or about $5.5 million. He says the price includes shoreline protection, sand filling, solar lighting, flyovers and concrete pavement designed to last 100 years; Section One, spanning 47.47 kilometers, is priced at N1.067 trillion. Umahi had said in April 2024 that the road would cost N4 billion per kilometer, a figure that has since nearly doubled and drawn criticism. He says motorists should be able to travel from Ahmadu Bello Way in Lagos through Sections One and Two and part of Section Four into Ondo State by November.
