Kidnapped and released, this Nigerian monarch dies under troubling circumstances

Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Onigbesi of Igbesi in Kwara State, died in the hospital a few days after being released from a kidnapping that occurred on August 22, 2026. He was captured by armed men and rescued on August 27 during a joint operation by security forces. His son stated that he fell ill after his release, and the security coordinator suggested that his condition was linked to the trauma of captivity. The death was announced on September 12 by Bisi Fakayode.
