Jakes Gerwel Drive: Two southbound lanes closed after illegal digging

Urgent repairs on Jakes Gerwel Drive near Bonteheuwel in Cape Town have closed two southbound lanes after illegal excavation beneath Bonteheuwel Bridge damaged the road surface. Only two of the four southbound lanes remain open between Bofors Circle and the N2 highway. The City of Cape Town said the excavation was discovered on Friday, October 23, and repairs could be completed by the end of the week. Motorists are urged to avoid the route if possible, allow extra travel time and follow temporary traffic arrangements.
