Jesy Nelson calls plan to test newborns for deadly muscle condition a 'victory'

Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has called the plan to test all newborns in England for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) a 'victory'. The screening will be part of a major study starting in October 2026, with full expansion by October 2027. Nelson, whose twin daughters were diagnosed with SMA, has been campaigning for early testing, as gene therapies can correct the genetic defect if given before symptoms emerge.
