Cape Town photographer documents the Huni Kuin of Brazil’s Amazon

Cape Town photographer Gary Van Wyk is presenting his first exhibition, “Novo Futuro: The Huni Kuin of the Amazon,” documenting the lives, culture and spiritual traditions of the Huni Kuin in Brazil’s Amazon. He made the photographs during a stay of nearly 12 days in a village in Acre State, after building relationships of trust with the community. Van Wyk hopes to share the Huni Kuin’s stories and ancestral knowledge, as well as their role in protecting the Amazon’s natural world. The exhibition is open to visitors until November 6, 2026.
