JIBWIS leaders hand over 22-year-old suspect to police over viral video

The Nigeria Police Force arrested Umar Ibrahim Gandi Maradun, a 22-year-old man from Zamfara State, over a viral video allegedly containing statements capable of inciting religious violence. Police spokesperson CSP Ani Iniedu said the video shows a young man wearing the uniform of Jama’atu Izalatil Bidi’a Wa’ikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS). National and state JIBWIS leaders disassociated the organisation from the alleged conduct and handed the suspect over to authorities. Police said he would be charged if sufficient evidence established an offence and warned the public not to circulate the video or unverified claims.
