Jigawa warns livestock traders, transporters against animal cruelty, threatens prosecution

The Jigawa State Government has warned livestock traders, transporters, and poultry sellers that they face fines and prosecution if found guilty of animal cruelty. Mudansir Habib, Director of Livestock Extension, stated during a sensitization visit to Shuwarin Weekly Market as part of Global Animal Welfare Week activities that strict actions, including fines and prosecutions, will be enforced against violators. He specifically cautioned transporters moving livestock from northern Nigeria to the south against causing unnecessary suffering and warned poultry sellers against harmful handling practices like carrying birds upside down. The awareness campaign will be extended to livestock markets across the state to promote animal welfare standards.
