Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi stated that the expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will cost Ksh155 billion, half of the reported Ksh375 billion. Appearing before the Senate on June 17, 2026, he assured that the project would be funded through the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) without increasing national debt. President William Ruto had announced in March that construction would start in June 2026 using Ksh20 billion from the privatisation of Kenya Pipeline Company.
