JKUAT VC Proposes Crickets and Snails as Alternative Foods for Kenyans

The Vice Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Victoria Wambui, proposed using crickets and snails as alternative food sources amid Kenya's looming food shortage. She stated that the university is exploring these options to diversify agricultural production and improve food security, while also promoting new crop opportunities like plantain and dragon fruit through tissue culture. The initiative comes as Kenya plans to import over one million bags of maize to prevent a food crisis caused by failed rains and the upcoming El Niño season.
