JMPD officer caught in corruption after R1.5 million cash seizure

A Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer was arrested after disappearing with R1.5 million in cash during a roadside operation on August 12, 2023. The officer had stopped a motorist on suspicion of money laundering and confiscated the cash but diverted from the route to the police station. He was found guilty of corruption and is currently serving a prison sentence, while disciplinary proceedings against him continue.
