Former Congolese President Joseph Kabila has been appointed leader of a new rebel coalition called the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), aiming to overthrow the government. The coalition was announced in Goma and includes M23 leader Sultani Makenga as one of four deputies. Kabila, who ruled from 2001 to 2019, has recently criticized President Tshisekedi's government and has become involved in armed activities despite being sentenced to death in absentia for treason last year.
