Former Congolese President Joseph Kabila officially took leadership of the new political-military movement FRN on October 12, 2026, in Goma. The FRN replaces the AFC/M23 coalition, with Corneille Nangaa and Bertrand Bisimwa serving as vice-presidents. The movement cites Article 64 of the Congolese Constitution to challenge President Félix Tshisekedi’s government, though the Congolese authorities have not yet responded. Several of Kabila’s associates, especially from his party PPRD, have distanced themselves and resigned from the initiative.
