Judge backs banker’s sacking over erroneous Sh48m forex transfer

The Employment and Labour Relations Court upheld Bank of Africa’s decision to dismiss senior banking officer Mary Wachira over a mistaken Sh48 million foreign exchange transfer to Dubai Bank Kenya Limited a decade ago. Wachira claimed her termination was unfair, but the court found she negligently approved the payment without independently verifying receipt of the funds. The court dismissed her claim, citing her negligence in the approval process.
