Just in: Governors back State Police, demand constitutional safeguards

The 36 state governors of Nigeria, under the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), have reiterated their support for the immediate establishment of state police, demanding constitutional safeguards. Meeting in Abuja, they reviewed proposed constitutional amendments with state attorneys-general. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun read a communiqué emphasizing the need for state police to be constitutionally sound and aligned with federalism and citizens' rights. The governors also backed the National Nutrition Bill and reaffirmed commitment to ongoing power sector reforms.
