South Africa’s Justice Department says it is working on a draft Bill that could widen access to the National Register for Sex Offenders. The confirmation comes as Ian Cameron, chair of Parliament’s police portfolio committee, reaches the halfway point of a 30-day campaign to publish verified details about at least one convicted adult sexual offender each day. Those named include Mortimer Saunders, convicted of raping and murdering three-year-old Courtney Pieters, and Leano Vergotine, convicted of five rapes and offences involving child sexual grooming and child sexual-abuse material.
