Rutshuru: at least seven dead and more than ten injured after the explosion of an explosive device in Gikoro

At least seven people died and more than ten others were seriously injured after the explosion of an abandoned explosive device in Gikoro, in the Rutshuru territory, on September 12, 2026. The victims, mainly farmers, were caught in the explosion, with six dying instantly. The threat of unexploded ordnance remains persistent in the region, which is frequently affected by conflicts between the AFC/M23 rebels and the FARDC.
