CIIE 2026: Abidjan Opens Its Pavilion in Shanghai with the Chinese Market in Its Sights

Côte d’Ivoire is taking part for the first time in the China International Import Expo, held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, 2026, and inaugurated its pavilion on November 6. Coordinated by Côte d’Ivoire Export, the delegation includes around ten companies showcasing products such as cocoa, cashew nuts, dried fruit, processed chili products and handicrafts. Director General Kaladji Fadiga and Ambassador Adama Dosso emphasized the search for new Chinese buyers and the expansion of finished-product exports and Ivorian brands. Côte d’Ivoire also hopes to attract Chinese investment in processing industries, as China has applied duty exemptions to eligible products from several African countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, since May 1, 2026.

Power outage: TCN disputes Ikeja Disco’s claim of grid instability in Lagos

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disputes Ikeja Electric’s (IKEDC) claim that outages on November 3 and 4 were caused by grid instability. TCN says reduced supply resulted from lower generation, citing gas constraints at thermal power stations and reduced hydroelectric output, as explained by system operator NISO. Of interruptions on feeders serving IKEDC on November 1 and 2, 68% were frequency-control load shedding due to low generation, 26% involved IKEDC’s network faults or failure to follow allocations, and 6% were related to TCN maintenance or transmission limitations. Among 46 interruptions on the 33kV feeders cited by IKEDC, 29 stemmed from low generation and 14 were attributed to IKEDC.
