Kaduna PDP candidate Bawa suspends campaign activities after three party members die

Usman Shehu Bawa, the PDP’s candidate for governor of Kaduna State in the 2027 election, suspended all campaign activities after three party members died in a road accident. The victims—Caleb Ishaya Alot, Mercy Achi and Charity Bahago—were returning home from a meeting in Kaduna and were all from Jema’a Local Government Area. The inauguration of the campaign council and other activities planned for Saturday have been postponed until further notice. Bawa offered condolences to the victims’ families and PDP members and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

The ANC in the Western Cape will have to reassess its election strategy after a disappointing result in the 2026 local government elections. Results supplied for the report suggest at least 16 Western Cape municipalities could lack an outright majority and require coalition negotiations. The DA is leading in many districts counted so far, followed by the ANC and the Patriotic Alliance.
