Kane primed to beat Yamal and Mbappe to Ballon d’Or glory

England captain Harry Kane is the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or at Monday’s ceremony in London, with Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe also in contention. The Bayern Munich striker scored 73 goals in 65 appearances last season, helping the club win the German league and cup double and leading England to the World Cup semi-finals. Yamal, last year’s runner-up, and Mbappe, top scorer in La Liga, the Champions League and the World Cup despite winning none of those trophies, are also candidates. Journalists from 100 countries will rank their top ten players from a 30-man shortlist to decide the winner.
