Kano Assembly approves new urban planning law

The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Physical Planning and Development Control Bill, 2026, paving the way for the dissolution of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA). The law establishes two metropolitan development agencies to oversee physical planning, building approvals, urban renewal, and compliance with environmental regulations. Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini said the new agencies will replace KNUPDA and aim to promote orderly development and transform Kano into a modern city.
