Kara bridge repairs: Gridlock shuts down Lagos, jerks up transport fares

Motorists and commuters were stranded for several hours on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway due to ongoing rehabilitation works on the Kara Bridge. Transport fares surged by over 200% due to a shortage of commercial buses and traffic jams stretching over 20 kilometers. The repairs, directed by Minister of Works David Umahi, aim to replace deteriorating expansion joints to enhance road safety and traffic flow. The situation was worsened by rainstorms and a truck crash on Tuesday night.
