Kenge Crash: Tryphon Kin-Kiey Mulumba Justifies Lack of Runway Due to Spoliation of Airport Platforms by Local Financial and Political Powers

Following a crash that killed 17 people, including high-ranking military officials, in Kenge, Tryphon Kin-Kiey Mulumba, chairman of the RVA, explained the lack of an airport runway in the city as a result of local actors’ spoliation of airport platforms. He denounced the occupation of a former 930-meter runway, now partly occupied by houses, which could have prevented the crash. The aircraft, a Let-410 operated by Tracep, was carrying 16 people and crashed around 1:14 PM while heading to Kinshasa, without prior coordination with N’Djili control tower.
