Kenya Confirms Four New Ebola Cases, Bringing Total to Seven

Kenya’s Ministry of Health confirmed four new Ebola cases on October 17, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to seven, including the first patient who died. The new cases involve a male relative of the deceased, quarantined since October 6, and three health workers who treated him in hospital on October 3 and 4. The patients’ positive results were confirmed by both the National Virology Reference Laboratory and KEMRI, and they are receiving supportive care at designated facilities. Health Director General Patrick Amoth said the risk to the public remains low, with no evidence of community transmission.
