Kenya Says It Has Made No Final Decision on UAE Candidate for UN Chief

Kenya has denied endorsing Emirati diplomat Lana Nusseibeh for the post of United Nations secretary-general. Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei said the country was monitoring the campaigns and had not backed any candidate, despite Musalia Mudavadi welcoming Nusseibeh’s entry into the race. The clarification comes as former Ugandan diplomat Olara Otunnu is also seeking the post and concerns have emerged about possible diplomatic tensions between the neighbours. António Guterres is due to leave office on December 31, 2026, with his successor expected to take over in January 2027.
