Kenya shuts avocado exports by sea as supplies run low

Kenya’s Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has suspended avocado exports by sea from October 30 after a nationwide survey found insufficient supplies of export-ready fruit. The harvesting season for four varieties is also closing on that date. The move tightens controls on a trade that earned the country Sh20.8 billion in 2025.

Falana seeks recovery of $123bn in oil funds

Nigerian lawyer Femi Falana urged the Senate and relevant authorities to recover more than $123 billion and N66.4 billion allegedly owed to the Federation Account by NNPCL and other oil and gas companies. He cited court judgments and legislative investigations, and alleged that the government had failed to comply with rulings in favour of oil-producing states.

Togo currently has 140 biodigesters, which turn organic waste into biogas and fertilizer, and plans to install 5,000 by 2030, pending funding. A delegation from the West and Central Africa Biodigester Alliance is in Lomé to support the country and review the organization’s 2026–2030 strategic plan, which targets 50,000 new installations across the subregion. In Kpalimé, the EcoFemmes project, launched in March 2026 and funded with more than 52 million CFA francs by the International Organisation of La Francophonie, plans to train and support 130 rural women in organic farming and biogas production. Expanding the sector will require financing, trained technicians, maintenance services and broader adoption.

Togo: OTR to begin checking transporters’ payment of the TPU on November 2

The Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) will begin checking road transporters’ payment of the single professional tax (TPU) on November 2, 2026. The checks will cover the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 and take place on the country’s main roads. The OTR says the collection period is still open and urges transport professionals to bring their tax accounts up to date before inspections begin. The quarterly flat-rate tax varies according to vehicle category, type of activity, and transport capacity or tonnage.
