Kenya: the Quakers reinvent themselves to attract a new generation

In Kenya, the Religious Society of Friends, known as Quakers, is reinventing its practices to appeal to a new generation, with services in Cheptulu now featuring music, singing, and dancing. Quakerism arrived in 1902 via American missionaries and evolved from silent worship to a more evangelical form that includes hymns and sermons, while remaining rooted in the country's history. Kenya hosts the largest Quaker community in the world, with nearly half of the 400,000 Quakers worldwide living in Africa.
