Kenya’s Fight Against Drugs Trafficking from the High Seas to Justice

Kenya, through Working Group 3 on Operational Cooperation and Coordination at Sea, is strengthening regional efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking in the Western Indian Ocean. In October 2025, the Kenyan Navy intercepted the dhow MV Mashallah with over one ton of methamphetamine valued at approximately KSh 8.2 billion during Operation Bahari Safi. The narcotics were destroyed after verification and judicial procedures, demonstrating the government's commitment to dismantling criminal networks and securing its territorial waters.
