Kenya’s insurance hits 8-year high as life covers overtake general insurance

Insurance penetration in Kenya rose to 2.63% last year, the highest level since 2017, driven by a significant increase in life insurance premiums. Life insurance premiums more than tripled between 2016 and 2025, reaching Sh236.29 billion, while general insurance premiums rose 1.85 times. In 2025, life insurance penetration reached 1.35%, overtaking general insurance penetration, which increased slightly to 1.28%.
