The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has launched a technology-driven tool to more frequently monitor changes in Kenya’s tree cover, developed in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The tool was piloted in Makueni County, achieving 84.4% accuracy in tree cover mapping. Despite planting initiatives, environmentalists are calling for verification of tree survival, emphasizing that figures alone are insufficient to measure the country's progress.
