Kindu: More than 1,258 Atoko Primary School pupils attend classes outdoors after two buildings are damaged

More than 1,258 pupils at Atoko Primary School in Kindu, Maniema province, are attending classes outdoors after violent winds and heavy rain tore the roofs off two school buildings on October 10, 2026. The pupils are exposed to harsh sun, rain and wind, disrupting lessons and making learning conditions difficult. School director Lokombo Tuku Polydor urged authorities, humanitarian organizations and well-wishers to fund urgent repairs. Built in 1974, the school could suffer further damage if restoration work is delayed.
