Kinshasa: Ecobank launches “MoMo,” a payment service using Mobile Money wallets

Ecobank launched “MoMo” in Kinshasa on October 15, enabling holders of Mobile Money wallets from different operators in the DRC to pay at merchants equipped with Ecobank electronic payment terminals. Developed with technical support from Makuta, the service allows cashless payments without a QR code or the merchant’s phone, offering an experience similar to paying by bank card. Michel Kayembe, Ecobank’s Head of Payment and Cash Management, and Ecobank RDC CEO Étienne Claude Mabunda described the initiative as a way to expand electronic payment acceptance and make financial services more accessible.
