Kinshasa hit by a series of fires: disasters raise questions as a public service under the Ministry of the Interior has been in place since late 2025

Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been shaken by several deadly fires since last weekend, including one that claimed the lives of around ten people at a wedding. Firefighters often arrive late and with limited resources, with the city having fewer than ten fire trucks. A bill to modernize the firefighters' corps was submitted in November 2022 but was not examined by the National Assembly.
