Kinshasa-Mont-Ngafula: Construction of Lukaya Bridge Begins Over a Year After Old Structure Collapsed

Construction of a new bridge over the Lukaya River in Mont-Ngafula, Kinshasa, has started after the old bridge collapsed during heavy rains on April 5-6, 2025. The new bridge, measuring 60 meters in length and 14 meters in width, will have two lanes to facilitate vehicle crossing, especially for trucks. Funded by the public treasury and awarded to Lebanese company Safrimex, the project is expected to take ten months but may face delays due to weather conditions. Meanwhile, a temporary pedestrian bridge has been set up to improve safety for residents crossing the river.
