Kongo-Central: Hospital damaged and homes destroyed after torrential rain in Kivulu

Torrential rain and strong winds struck Kivulu, in Mbanza-Ngungu territory, on Tuesday night into Wednesday. At Ndembo General Referral Hospital, much of the roof was torn off and several treatment rooms were flooded, disrupting care and forcing patients to be moved or referred elsewhere. About ten homes were damaged, while part of Mabilama Primary School collapsed, leaving all three classrooms unusable. Residents are calling on authorities and humanitarian partners to assist affected families and repair the damaged facilities.

The organization urged the road maintenance contractor and provincial authorities to take urgent steps to maintain the route and rehabilitate the most damaged structures. The contractor blamed delays on insecurity linked to ADF attacks but said machinery is already on site to continue maintenance and rehabilitation work.
