KRA Explains Moving Tax Filing Deadline to April, Sending Messages to Businesses

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) defended its proposal to move the tax filing deadline from June 30 to April 30, stating that the current system no longer justifies a mid-year timeline. Commissioner George Obell emphasized that with pre-populated returns, taxpayers, especially salaried employees, should file their returns earlier. Additionally, KRA plans to send every registered taxpayer a detailed breakdown starting January 1, 2027, to facilitate this process.
