KRA Eyes M-Pesa Invoices for Small and Micro Traders

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Safaricom are discussing a system that would let M-Pesa issue electronic tax invoices on behalf of small businesses. Receipts would be generated through the eTIMS system for small traders receiving payments through M-Pesa tills and paybills. The proposal aims to make it easier for micro traders to supply large companies with goods and services.

Speaking at CapitalSage Holdings’ 10th anniversary celebration and the inauguration of its global headquarters in Ibadan, he said sustainable growth depends on entrepreneurship, skills, knowledge and intensive production. Makinde described support for entrepreneurs and private-sector-led industrialisation as pillars of Oyo’s economic transformation and promised investors continued government support. He said the headquarters of the conglomerate, which comprises about 20 companies, would strengthen Ibadan’s standing as a business hub and investment destination able to compete with Lagos.

Frozen Fish Prices: Port, Customs, Wholesalers and Consumers Meet in Consultation Committee

The committee on frozen fish sales held its first meeting on October 28 at Postel in Abidjan, after being announced by Trade Minister Kalil Konaté on October 22. Chaired by chief of staff Raymond Assoua, the meeting brought together representatives of the Port and Customs, importers, semi-wholesalers, women retailers and consumer associations. Participants examined port charges, taxation, product storage and transaction controls to understand how prices are formed. They expressed a shared intention to find lasting solutions to stabilize prices and protect consumers’ purchasing power.
