KRA to Tax Foreign Earnings of Kenyan Remote Workers After Landmark Ruling

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has decided to tax income earned by Kenyan remote workers for projects managed from the country, following a ruling from the Tax Appeals Tribunal. The tribunal ruled in favor of KRA in a Ksh1.9 billion dispute with a German company, stating that the income was derived from Kenya. Over 185,000 Kenyans are engaged in digital or remote jobs, mainly in IT and customer service, and this decision could significantly impact these workers.
