KRA Warns of Tax Crackdown After Seizing Underdeclared Smartphones

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) warned businesses and taxpayers against tax evasion after seizing over 55,000 smartphones at Eldoret International Airport. The consignment, initially declared to contain only 3,000 smartphones, revealed ordinary and high-end smartphones that were undeclared, resulting in an estimated tax loss of Ksh21.5 million. KRA is intensifying efforts to uncover tax evasion schemes and is appealing to the public to report any suspicious activities.
