Kwango: Nearly 10 homes, avenues and other infrastructure damaged by erosion in Kenge

Heavy rains last week worsened erosion in Kenge, in Kwango province, damaging at least nine homes, including two that collapsed completely. The stadium under construction was also affected, and several avenues are at risk of being cut off. Mayor Noël Kuketuka says 29 erosion sites are active and four have been brought under control; durable citywide prevention works are estimated to cost US$25 million, based on studies conducted nearly four years ago, but have received no funding. He is calling on the central government to finance the project, as local efforts are largely limited to building water-retention basins.
