The UN Security Council extended the arms embargo on Sudan's Darfur region by two months until December 11, 2026, but failed to agree on a US proposal to expand it nationwide, due to opposition from Russia and China. Resolution 2830 also renewed the mandate of the panel of experts monitoring sanctions until January 11, 2027. The conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023, has resulted in at least 59,000 deaths, with aid groups warning the toll could be much higher.
