Labour fends off the Green party in closely watched UK by-election

The Labour Party won a parliamentary seat in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency in London following the resignation of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Labour candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali received 12,292 votes, defeating Green Party leader Zack Polanski with 8,928 votes. The victory boosts Prime Minister Andy Burnham and signifies a rebound of voters back to Labour after losing left-wing support to the Greens earlier this year. The campaign was marked by controversy over a Green Party motion declaring Zionism as racism, which Polanski did not vote on.
