Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua announced a 12% increase in the minimum wage for domestic workers in major Kenyan cities, raising the monthly salary to Ksh18,047 for Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret. The hike follows President William Ruto's directive during Labour Day celebrations on May 1, 2026 in Vihiga. Employers failing to comply face fines up to Ksh50,000 or three months imprisonment. Additionally, agricultural workers received a 15% increase.
