Labour union strike in Abuja politically motivated - Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, described the strike declared by the FCT chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress as politically motivated, insisting that the issues raised had already been agreed upon and addressed. He also stated that the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) had distanced themselves from the strike. Wike warned that the 'no work, no pay' policy would be enforced against participating workers, asserting that the administration had no unresolved issues with the area councils.

ACGT's CEO, Nico Nzau Nzau, acknowledged the delay and said measures will be taken to mitigate it, potentially causing a slight delay in the project's 2027 completion date. Some temporary works are in place to maintain traffic until permanent structures are built. Nearly six million dollars are allocated to support communities along the route.
