Lagos arrests former Taskforce operative for impersonation and extortion

The Lagos State Taskforce arrested 36-year-old Adeyemo Olalekan, a former operative dismissed several years ago, for allegedly posing as an enforcement officer to seize commercial motorcycles and extort their operators. He reportedly targeted new Bajaj motorcycles and bikes with engine capacities below 200cc, threatening to have them crushed unless riders paid him. Olalekan was charged with impersonation, extortion and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and reportedly pleaded guilty to all three counts. The case was adjourned until December 16, 2026, for facts and sentencing, and he was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
