Lagos court jails 67-year-old lawyer for environmental offences

A Lagos State Special Offences Court sentenced 67-year-old lawyer Taiwo Abidemi to seven months' imprisonment for indiscriminate dumping of refuse and failure to engage an approved waste operator. Abidemi pleaded guilty to all three charges. Chief Magistrate Adefioye stated that the law applies equally to all residents. The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps chairman said the conviction sends a strong message that environmental laws will be enforced without exception.

Appeal Court reserves judgment on appeals against deregistration of ADC, 4 others

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved judgment on appeals seeking to set aside the Federal High Court judgment that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. The other parties are the Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). The appellate court had previously stayed execution of the judgment, criticizing Justice Peter Lifu for disregarding a stay of proceedings order.
