Lagos targets 40% food self-sufficiency, Sanwo-Olu says

Lagos aims to raise food self-sufficiency from about 20% to 40% of state demand, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said through his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, at the 2026 World Food Day celebration in Ikeja. The strategy calls for increasing productivity on available land, strengthening supply partnerships with other states, expanding food processing and reducing waste. The government is developing a three-tier distribution network; the central hub at Ketu-Ereyun in Epe is at an advanced stage, while mid-level agro-produce hubs have opened or are under construction. The Produce for Lagos programme connects farmers with guaranteed markets, and farmer registration is underway following the launch of a N500 billion Guarantee Offtake Fund.

2027 Budget: Why Diomaye Is Reducing Sonko’s Allocation to the National Assembly

Senegal’s proposed 2027 budget cuts the allocation for the National Assembly, led by Ousmane Sonko, by 1.2 billion CFA francs, or about 5.4%, from 22.3 billion to 21.1 billion. By contrast, credits for President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s office rise by 19.3 billion to 223.8 billion CFA francs, while the Prime Minister’s Office gains 1.4 billion, reaching 32.3 billion. The budget projects 6,012.1 billion CFA francs in revenue and 7,363.7 billion in spending amid significant public-finance constraints. The contrast has fueled questions about tensions between Faye and Sonko, but no official explanation links the Assembly’s reduction to their political differences.

Hydraulic Resources and Electricity Minister Aimé Molendo Sakombi inaugurated phase one of the Kamoa-Kakula solar park in Lualaba on October 16, 2026. The 430 MW project attracted $522 million in private funding and brings together Kamoa Copper, CrossBoundary Energy and GreenWorld Énergie. ARE Director General Soraya Aziz Moto described the project as evidence of the Congolese electricity market’s appeal and of the role predictable regulation plays in securing investment. She also praised the support of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, the minister and Lualaba Governor Fifi Masuka Saini.
