Lagos Task Force detains dismissed operative over alleged extortion

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit detained a former operative at Oshodi bus stop over alleged impersonation and extortion of motorists and traders. Task Force chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele said the man had been dismissed several months earlier over alleged misconduct, including theft, use of a fake identity card and extortion, but continued to pose as a serving official. His detention followed the circulation of a viral video of his apprehension; he is expected to be arraigned on Monday after the investigation is completed. Akerele urged residents to verify officials’ identities and journalists to seek responses from relevant parties before publication.
