Lake Victoria’s Nile Perch: Fish paradox haunting Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania

The Nile perch, a freshwater fish from Lake Victoria, was introduced by colonialists in 1962. Its population exploded in the 1970s and 1980s, disrupting the lake's ecological balance and threatening indigenous species. Uganda dominates the market with 45% of the lake's surface and 12 processing factories, while Kenya, with only 6%, plays a key role in processing and exporting to Europe.
