The Port of Lamu has processed the first-ever transit container shipment destined for Burundi, arriving aboard the MV Jolly Oro. This change in transport mode allowed the cargo to bypass the Port of Dar es Salaam, with the consignment being moved directly by road to Burundi. This operation also revitalizes the Voi-Taveta-Tanzania-Burundi corridor, which has been largely inactive since its official opening in 2018.
